They are called Malcolm, Malcolm and Malcolm, - by coincidence. The Time Flies are flies who can travel through time in a thimble which has Tardis capabilities. They also have a film camera and sound recording facilities, with which they film (fly-on-the-wall) documentary footage of their travels. They act a little like tour guides for us at times, throughout the action, - and help Elsie to escape from the PIgfrofrog Jail.
